Case Study: Leak-Free Commercial Bathroom Refurbishment on an MOD Site

For any facilities manager, an old, unhygienic or leaking washroom is more than an eyesore — it’s a liability. Reliable, functional facilities matter for staff wellbeing and productivity.

Commercial washroom refurbishment

As a committed business owner or facilities manager, you are aware that an old, unclean and leaky toilet is not only unsightly but also a liability. Ensuring that employees in a busy warehouse have access to hygienic, fully functional facilities is essential for their productivity and wellbeing.

For a significant industrial client in the area, the Pro Trade South Wales team recently took on this exact challenge. As part of a larger, high-stakes MOD contract, we were assigned to complete a commercial bathroom refurbishment across one of the building’s three restrooms, due to ongoing leaks and general wear and tear in the previous installations.

The challenge: leaks, poor hygiene and a strict contract

The existing workers’ facilities were suffering from various plumbing issues, primarily chronic leaks that were causing water wastage, potential structural damage and an unsanitary environment. Working under an MOD contract also requires an exceptionally high standard of professionalism, adherence to timelines and compliance with all specifications — quality and reliability are non-negotiable.

Our solution: modernisation and robust plumbing integrity

We approached the job with a clear focus: eliminate all leaks, dramatically improve hygiene, and deliver a facility built to last.

1. Total plumbing overhaul

The compromised pipework was replaced to directly address the leaks. To ensure a long-term, leak-free solution, we installed sturdy, contemporary plumbing systems and replaced the outdated, exposed copper lines with clean, properly routed connections — including a tidy, concealed system in the urinal area.

2. Enhancing sanitation at the sink stations

Modern fixtures, such as sleek vanity cabinets that hide pipework for a cleaner, easier-to-maintain appearance, replaced the outdated washbasins. We upgraded the handwashing facilities with a range of dispenser types for maximum flexibility and hygiene, and installed a new, enclosed water heater to ensure reliable access to hot water.

3. Attention to detail in the cubicles

Significant improvements were made even to the smallest areas. Hygienic, easily cleaned tiling was installed up to the dado rail, outdated cistern connections were updated, and we ensured adequate ventilation to properly control moisture and odours.

The result: a new standard of cleanliness and reliability

The warehouse now benefits from a washroom facility that is not only completely leak-free but far more hygienic and pleasant for staff to use.

The work was completed efficiently, resulting in a facility that fully meets the exacting standards required for this MOD contract. The client can now offer their workforce a reliably clean and safe environment.
